Mentor Training

Mentor training will prepare you for your future work as a mentor to your matched participants. You will participate in an initial orientation session to review basic information: an organization overview; funding; clients; policies and procedures.  Expectations will be discussed, so you will have a clear understanding of what to anticipate during the relationship. You will be trained to understand and express your boundaries to your participant. You will be given tips and tools for effective ways two-way communication.

The underlying goal of the mentoring process is to stabilize the lives of formerly incarcerated persons, reduce recidivism. One of the keys to a successful re-entry process is having access to a positive role model. As a mentor, you will ensure this need is met.

Nearly anyone can be a mentor. Each of us has special skills and abilities to share. Since you are likely to develop a close relationship with your participant, your emotional maturity is a primary requirement.

Both mentors and participants are required to be over the age of 18.
